The patina is the combination of consistent operations to produce a weathered look to the colors by applying dyes with a specific technique to give personality and a unique look to the shoes. For Patino, the house of Charlet works two types of patinas: the simple patina everyone can find in the ready to wear collections and the diamond finish patina, specific to the ‘Iconic’ collection.
The simple patina is a technique consisting of using successive layers of polish to deeply penetrate the dyes and the contrasts. The ‘diamond’ patina finish offers a harmony of dyes as complementary as in a music score in which the beauty and harmony of the instrument is replaced by essential oils and different dyes.
In close collaboration with a world-renowned French tannery, Charlet uses leather from combination-tanned hides, mineral and vegetable, having the capacity to absorb the dyes beautifully and therefore giving the colors an unexpected deepness.
In the patina workshops the essential oils are used in successive layers to give an artistic dimension to our shoes. Each shoe is worked individually with a cloth and a brush: a meticulous artistic technique. The effects and juxtapositions of the dyes produce a unique piece.
Handmade by expert colorists and engorged with essential oils, the patinas give the shoes a color apart, full of life and personality. Discrete or extravagant, sober or flamboyant, each pair is unique and resembles only the man who wears them because he is the one who chooses the final patina.
For the made to order ‘Iconic’ collection of shoes, Patino offers to choose from a range of 6 patina finishes. The MONTE-CARLO model is the only model made to order with a patina of choice available in plain or blucher toe with the emblem of Patino on its toe tip. A delay of 3 weeks is necessary to create this pair of Patino shoes, one of a kind in the world.
